Aim and Background: micronutrients like iron as a cofactor plays an important role in the construction of a number of antioxidant enzymes. In this study the effects of salinity and iron on expression levels of ascorbate peroxidase (Cm APX) in Sistan melon Landrace were studied.
Materials and Methods: three Sistan melon Landraces including Sefidak, Ghandak and Khatdar at three salinity levels (0, 250 and 350 mM, NaCl) and two levels of Fe (2 gr per thousand and controls sprayed with pure water) in a randomized complete block design with three replications at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Zabol in the form of flower pot was planted. Then Cm APX gene expression was studied using Real Time PCR
Results: Salinity and foliar application of iron had a significant effect on Cm APX gene expression. Sefidak Cm APX expression levels in comparison with the control salinity increased with the use of iron as well as its expression increased. The lowest Khatdar Cm APX gene expression compared to control salinity level of 350 mM showed that the use of the expression levels of the iron recovered.
Conclusion: The application of trace elements iron, central power plants to salinity. The Cm APX gene expression reflects the fact that the Ghandak as resistant cultivars and Khatdar as susceptible to salinity is underlined.
