ویروس کووید-19یک عفونت ویروسی شدید و مسری است که در اواخر دسامبر 2019 در ووهان چین ظاهر شد و به سرعت در سراسرجهان گسترش پیدا کرد. با وجود مطالعه­های متعددی که در مورد این ویروس جدید به انجام رسیده است، اما همچنان منشاء پیدایش آن بصورت مبهم باقیمانده مانده است. تعیین منشاء دقیق این ویروس می تواند به یافتن راه حل هایی برای مهار این ویروس و ویروس های مشابه در آینده مفید باشد.
